Schools and Community Engagement

The Petero Civoniceva Foundation have delivered our programmes to schools and communities across the length of Fiji, from Nadi to Suva.

The Foundation’s programmes have received support from the Ministry of Education, Health, Youth and Sport and the British High Commissioner, the Fiji Sports Commission and the Fiji Sports Council. We have developed and delivered sponsored programmes with multi-national organizations such as Toyota, Total, Nestle and Fiji Water.

The Foundation’s Get Healthy with Petero programme has been delivered to more than 10,000 young people. The Foundation partners with primary schools to encourage their students to adopt a healthier lifestyle. The programme introduces new styles of teaching, including cross curricular learning. The program is delivered over five weeks and the resource packs and teacher training guarantees the sustainability of the initiative.

The Foundation developed a primary school road safety programme, Look, Think, Act. The programme includes a media awareness campaign and featured in a national newspaper and on television. This was in direct response to the alarming number of road accidents involving children in Fiji.

Petero’s Bootcamps was developed to support the Ministry of Health's vision of reducing the number of people diagnosed with NCDs. The programme has been successfully delivered to several corporate organisations including Asco Motors, Total and Tourism Fiji.

Petero's Prodigies is a 5 week project that is delivered in schools providing a variety of physical education sessions to pupils ages 2-18 years old.

During 2020 we created a number of programmes and initiatives which enabled communities to still keep active despite the restrictions of Covid-19. Our PE with Petero poster was designed with 15 different exercises for children and their parents to practice in their villages without the need of equipment. This poster was promoted for several weeks in the Fiji Sun newspaper as a pull-out for people to display in their homes and village halls to keep their communities active.

In November 2020 we launched our Fitness for Diabetes - Partner Workout Campaign, a week long campaign which consisted of two videos a day for a week being posted on our social media platforms. These videos were fun and proactive ways to encourage people to workout with their friends and family whilst recucing their risk of Type II Diabetes.
